Dieting is not a prison sentence.
Whether you plan to lose weight, gain muscle, or simply live a healthier, more sustainable life, your diet is usually the biggest consideration and stressor.
The possibilities are endless and figuring out which path to choose can often be overwhelming. Are you going the low-carb route or the fasting route? Do you count calories and macronutrients, or not? Can I get a cheat sheet or not? Should I try the Mediterranean diet or the keto diet?
The stress is understandable and the misinformation is endless... But there's a good answer to that!
What choice must or can I make when you start dieting?
That answer?
Choose the diet you stick to and enjoy the most. Simple.
Of course, some standard rules should not be forgotten. There are clear decisions that classify whether you eat healthy or not - we all know this. Fruits and vegetables are generally good, while processed foods such as crackers and cookies are generally bad.
The difference here is moderation, involvement, discipline, but above all - enjoyment. As long as you can stick to a relatively healthy diet (i.e. the 80/20 rule), your only decision left is to find what works for you and stick to it.
There are many effective diets.
The real player is compliance and sustainability.
So, what kind of diet is best for you? The best diet is one that is backed by science, is healthy, and is most easily adhered to by the individual. A diet that typically focuses on whole foods, plant-based options (yes, that can include animal protein!) with the flexibility to be tailored to the individual is usually a good place to start.
Find out what you like, make sure it's generally in the parameters of a healthy lifestyle, and stick to it! A diet is simply a broad framework of what you can and cannot eat. It's not a prison sentence.
Finally and to reiterate the premise: the diet that is best for you is the one you stick to...
